Presto Tape: 25 Years of Industry Leadership

(Presto Inkjet Media, 2016)

In the early 90s, as wide format printing became the new standard in retail, advertising, and display media, the need arose for a more efficient method of installing and removing large-scale signage.

Enter Michael Speeney, who revolutionized the industry with his patented easy-release, microsphere adhesive formula. This innovation enabled him, as the founder of Presto Tape, to manufacture a line of tapes and films that could be easily applied, respositioned, and removed without damaging wall surfaces. This formula is the basis for all Presto products, from our iconic blue painter’s tape to our newest line of wide format printable media.

As our valued customer, you recognize the added value and creative potential that printable, repositionable wallcoverings can offer your clientele, so we made our wide format printable media available to you by the roll and direct from the manufacturer through Presto Inkjet Media.

Presto Tape’s History:

Presto Tape was founded by Michael Speeney, in Bensalem, PA, for the manufacturing of specialty tapes and pressure sensitive films. Even back then, Mike was already a veteran of the industry, and held multiple patents on production processes.

Presto Tape becomes incorporated. That same year, Michael Speeney patents the pressure-sensitive, clean-release adhesive formula which has become the core feature of all Presto products.

The first of Presto’s newest line of products are announced on July 30th  – CanvasTac, the world’s first and only repositionable adhesive-backed canvas wallcovering, and PrestoTex, a 7 mil, repositionable adhesive-backed polyester fabric wallcovering specifically designed for brighter, richer color prints.

On November 4th  of the same year, Presto introduces an aqueous-coated version of the CanvasTac and Presto Tex, for use with aqueous inks, in addition to eco-solvent, UV, and latex inks.

On April 17th, Presto Tape announces the expansion of its line of digitally printable wallcoverings by introducing 4 new colored fabrics: CanvasTac Gold Iridescent, CanvasTac Silver, PrestoTex Gold Iridescent, and PrestoTex Silver. The new colored fabrics add a metallic sheen to graphics and patterns, giving customers an unprecedented level of design potential.

WallFab, a 15 mil smooth canvas, all-purpose wallcovering, is introduced on February 15th. WallFab is manufactured in Black, Gold Iridescent, Pearlescent, Silver, and standard White.

In October of 2016, Presto makes its wallcoverings available by the roll, through Presto Inkjet Media.
